Recent Makes| Sep/Oct 2017| RunningNStyle

Well I suppose it’s about time to share my recent makes. It’s taken a minute or two to complete my September Sewing plans. All my projects started in September, but a few had their last stitch in October. With that said, here is my Sep/Oct Makes.

McCall’s M6844 Cardigan

This is a semi-fitted cardigan that doesn’t meet in the center. I decided to go with Version B which is the tunic length; it’s the most comfortable length for me.

With regard to the sizing & fitting, I had no issues. The small is size 8-10, since it’s designed for knit fabric or those with some stretch in the fabric content (medium weight with moderate stretch). My fabric came from SR Harris in Brooklyn Park, MN.

It’s a straightforward design, not a lot to wrap your mind around. However version C might give you a little run for your money since it’s a peplum variations. This will be a future make; peplums are one of my favorite features on a pattern. Click Here for pattern (out of print), Etsy & Ebay can be other sources.

BellaSunshine Designs Apple Cardigan

This is such a lovely cardigan. I love the design and fall of this knee length version. The fact that it looks more like one is beyond me. It was quick make; I would say it took me 4 hours from start to finish. Trust me, I would have completed it soon, but I had 3 kids in need of attention.

What a great design and amazing fit, this was my first time sewing up a BSD pattern and aside from the tapping of PDF pattern, I’m satisfied. I am 5’9” and made a size 6 with no alterations. As a first time user, the pattern was well laid out with good information and details. I am defiantly going to make another one.

Octavia Patterns Pomegranate Top

I saw a notice on IG to test this pattern and again I completed the application. To be completely honest, I can’t remember exactly when I received the pattern, however it was released on 10/17. I decided it was okay to share now, but I am confident this was made in September. .

Here again, I made a size 6 and it fit perfectly. Everything lined up nicely with the exception of the sleeve hem. I know the designer made updates to the pattern, so there shouldn’t be that issue going forward. There really isn’t much to say, this is a simple pattern. The liquid metallic knit/spandex adds a nice edge to this project.

Closet Case Patterns Ginger Jeans

Well what can I say about the Ginger Jeans? Nothing, not a darn thing, because it has already been said. Everyone has tried it and it’s one of the best jeans pattern you can get. The instructions are great and the fit is amazing. I enjoyed making this Jeans. I love love love the fabric, it’s no longer available, but was purchased at fabric.com.

After making my first Ginger in a size 12 (Ver A), which gave me a boyfriend fit, I wanted a slimmer look. I decided to make size 8 (Ver B) , to see which I would prefer. The 8 fits perfect and now my confidence level is really high. I still have a fear of riverts but I’ll master them soon enough.

BurdaStyle 8/2017 114A Double Breasted Jacket

This Jacket is my Sewist Admiration Society challenge make with Elizabeth of Elizabeth Made This. I’ve been saying this more often, but I am really enjoy my BurdaStyle subscription. Why? Because! the instructions are a little more palatable. When I first saw this Jacket, I had assumed it was Pettit but I was wrong. The trouser it was paired with in the photo was pettit. I was contemplating a different pattern because I was feeling lazy and didn’t really want to make any adjustments on the jacket. You can image, how elated I was to realize that the sizing wouldn’t be an issue.

This jacket features a rounded flap insert pockets and back band detail (which I didn’t add the decorative hand stitches as recommended) and bracelet length sleeve. I made a size 38 because I’m always cold and know I would wear a lot of sweaters under it. It’s fully lined and you will see in the accompanying video that I added piping to it. For fabric, I choose MoodFabric’s Italian Potent Purple Wool Coating.

I am really happy with all the makes I’ve shared and hope you did as well.

You have some REALLY great pieces Renata! And beautiful fabric selections too! I agree with you, the Closet Case Ginger Jean is truly the best and I think I have made them 5 times already (6th pair currently on the sewing table!). I always miss the pattern testing announcements! I guess I don’t spend enough time on the appropriate social media outlets, LOL!
